What is a Hydrocolloid? The adhesive that sticks the ostomy pouch to the skin is termed a “hydrocolloid” and is the most important feature in managing life with a stoma. Simply explained, Hydrocolloids are comprised of adhesive and absorptive components such as pectin and sodium carboxymethylcellulose, and are especially suited to ostomy care because they absorb discharge, protect the skin and are gentle and flexible. There are, however, thousands of potential component choices for product designers who have the complicated task of meeting very different requirements for ostomates, which, to name a few, include; skin type, activity levels and stoma output.

Salts Hydrocolloids only contain materials that are approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for use in food. The superior hypoallergenic nature of our products has resulted in no confirmed skin sensitivities to Salts Hydrocolloids.
Aloe Vera extracts are impregnated into all our latest Hydrocolloids. Aloe acts as a humectant, moderating skin hydration, promoting healthier and more resilient peristomal skin, allowing for greater adhesion and absorption in our Hydrocolloids.
Salts' unique 5-sided Flexfit® wafer conforms to uneven abdomens without creasing.
Salts Healthcare '3rd Generation Hydrocolloids' are absorbent and 'turtleneck' around stomas, helping to prevent leakage and resultant skin irritation.
Salts' understanding of the complex chemistry in developing Hydrocolloids has resulted in formulations that create a strong gel on absorption, remaining in place to continue protecting the skin, even during periods of strenuous activity.
