Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring substance found throughout the body, primarily in layers of the skin. Its purpose is to facilitate skin hydration, consistency and elasticity. As children, we posses high quantities of hyaluronic acid in our bodies which decrease over a person's lifetime. The effects of this can be seen in the reduced effectiveness of the body in wound healing as well as thinner, weaker and drier skin. Due to its organic origin, hyaluronic acid is completely biocompatible, non-immunogenic and non-toxic. Working in chronic and acute wounds, it can act to reduce pain and inflammation in the affected area, as well as promote healing and tissue regeneration.
